Seasonal Hand Trees -kid art

The change in seasons is not getting along with my sinuses, so I'm a little under under the weather. No pun intended, that's just how I talk. As a result, it completely slipped my mind that I needed to finish working on my homesteading post last night. Oops. Sleep made it much worse, so I just don't have the clarity of thought to write a new quality post. I decided to pull a post from the archives of my old blog to share today instead. I hope you enjoy.

We had an early snowfall at the beginning of the week. The leaves hadn't all changed colors and fallen from the trees! I was planning to do the autumn version of this project anyway, so we ran with it and talked about all the seasons. The little hands are all Quinn's (3) projects and the larger hands are all  Zeke's (4). For this set, I did most of the prep work, but simply handed them the supplies to decorate the trees (one season at a time) and watched to see what they did.
We made an almost special trip to the craft store to search for things to decorate our spring and summer trees. I lucked out and found these and other supplies on sale and clearance.

If you have any questions pertaining to the projects shown, please ask in the comment section or send me an email and I'll get back to you within a few days.

Kidecals Personalized Waterproof Labels

I was recently contacted by Kidecals and given the opportunity to try some of their labels in exchange for my honest review.
I am loving these personalized waterproof labels! I picked out the everyday set of this label and the sizes are perfect for so many things! I especially love the small stickers and those are available by themselves in a mini set with 66 labels.
The main thing I use the labels for are Zeke's school lunches. I have a label on his box and each of his reusable containers. I have sent these through the dishwasher numerous times and the stickers still look just like they did when I put them on.

Here are some other things we have put them on:
  • book bags (the inside)
  • bottles (baby and water)
  • school jackets
  • slow cooker -(we've had lids get switched at church potlucks before)
The variety of options at kidecals is awesome! I have my eye on a few other options as well.
Check out some of these allergy alert stickers. If it turns out that Claire is actually allergic to dairy and or soy, I'll be getting some of these.
Some day when I grow enough to actually can the excess, I want these labels. They'd even be great for gifts in jars that seem to be popular around Christmas time.

I also love this look for the pantry. They have a variety of organizational labels that you can customize or you can get chalkboard labels.

I would be completely remiss if I didn't share my experience with the delivery. The website advertises that they ship with 48 hours. Normally when someone says that, I think they'll mail it around 45 hours later. My labels were shipped less than 24 hours after I ordered them and I had them 2 days later! I was shocked when they arrived in my mailbox so quickly. To top it off shipping is always free- no matter how big or small your order.

What will you use your labels for?

Mini Cheesy Chicken Pitas and Tasty Tuesday Linkup

This is one of those recipes that just sort of happened when I was making lunch one day. I didn't plan it out, but it was delicious and the mini pitas just make it that much more fun. This would work well as I full size pita or a sandwich too.
Ingredients:
1 T butter
half stalk celery, diced
1 T flour
1 C milk
2 C shredded chicken
1/2 C italian blend cheese (mozzarella is fine)
mini pitas
baby kale
1 medium tomato, seeded and diced

Place butter and celery into a medium sized saucepan over medium/high heat.
Allow butter to melt and celery to soften.
Stir in flour. The mixture should be thick and is likely to look a little gritty.
Whisk in milk until smooth and bring to light boil 4-5 minutes or until sauce thickens.
Stir in chicken and cheese and allow to cook until warmed through.
Assemble pitas by placing kale in pita, adding chicken and topping with tomatoes.
Enjoy!

    Meal Plan Monday: Dinners 9/1/14

It's a slightly abnormal week at our house, so we'll be eating away from home a couple times. The rest of the meals are fairly typical though.

    Dinner

A suggestion for this week's meal plan is to use a whole chicken to make the salad and pot pie. Make extra rice when you cook the stuffed peppers and use it to cook the fried rice. If you have any chicken left add that to the fried rice as well.
