For a family of 4 (2 adults, 1 teen, 1 child). The menu plan is a must, and self-discipline with cooking is a must (no ordering out when too tired to cook!). It works well for me, and it has proven to be successful as I have been doing this for over 3 years now. Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner and Snacks all included! Plus cleaning supplies whenever necessary! Again, it takes management and self-discipline. And good recipes, of course! :)Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6015521383435196691.post-10349998181732207902016-01-13T14:41:19.601-05:002016-01-13T14:41:19.601-05:00I do the exact same thing - buying meat in spurts ...I do the exact same thing - buying meat in spurts when it goes on sale! At the very least, what that could do is to encourage thriftiness some more, by making such a prospect within the realm of possibility. Budget pegs can be quite daunting, but a lot of that has to do with stigma, given what is expected of us sometimes, as far as spending is concerned. However, I believe everything can be demystified by getting through the nuts and bolts of building the budget in the first place. Thanks for sharing that! All the best!

Herman Thompson @ AccountAbility PlusAnonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18326980094398863610noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6015521383435196691.post-42825723053406342632015-01-06T22:37:42.610-05:002015-01-06T22:37:42.610-05:00I don't shop on $50 a week anymore. It takes c...I don't shop on $50 a week anymore. It takes closer to $100/week to meet all of our needs these days. I recently did a $300/4week project that you can find in the "$300 grocery experiment" -it sort of shows my process from the beginning. I recommend checking it out.
To answer your question based on this week's menu, I had a whole chicken in my freezer that was on sale awhile ago. Last week, we had pizza sticks, so I bought pepperoni and there is enough left to use this week in our stromboli. I also bought meatballs on sale last week. This week I bought keilbasa, ground turkey, and bacon on a really good sale. I bought more than is needed this week (I'm not even using the bacon) so that I'll have it in the future. I also bought a turkey ham for the ham and cheese muffins. Depending on next week's sales, I probably won't buy much, if any meat.
To answer the question in general terms, I buy meat in spurts. I am constantly looking for quality marked down meats to stash in the freezer, but I mostly stock up during sales. Some weeks we eat very little meat if the sales are slow and my freezer stash is low. I hope that helps.Annahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15362933316150394919noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6015521383435196691.post-83347353899136745742015-01-06T16:43:15.777-05:002015-01-06T16:43:15.777-05:00I was just reading your $50 grocery posts and I am...I was just reading your $50 grocery posts and I am curious when you buy your meat? Other than that, we do get juice regularly as the budget permits and will either make or buy hot chocolate and lemonade during the appropriate seasons. As far as soda goes, we do buy it sometimes, but it's usually purchased as a special treat Annahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15362933316150394919noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6015521383435196691.post-77313423797767674082014-12-29T12:03:46.003-05:002014-12-29T12:03:46.003-05:00I love the idea of the pizza sticks! Oh how I wish I could get my family to eat turkey. Win Co marked there turkey down to .38 a pound, and most of them were already thawed. I did talk hubby in to smoking one and we will eat one meal from it and then I plan on putting the rest of the meat in the freezer. Good thing, he will think it is chicken when I am done with it. There are just two of us eating on it, it is a 15 pound turkey, so think there will be a lot left over.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13883276453614044524noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6015521383435196691.post-69293292803861002772014-11-24T10:26:15.231-05:002014-11-24T10:26:15.231-05:00Great job staying on budget, especially with a hol...Great job staying on budget, especially with a holiday thrown into the mix. I don't know if part of it is that I live in southern California or what but $85 a week has been the lowest I've been able to go and it was horrible.
